Behrendorff ruled out for summer

Lower back problems continue for paceman as Warriors name Shield squad

Western Australia quick Jason Behrendorff has been ruled out for the remainder of the summer with a stress fracture in his lower back.

Behrendorff's injury – and the likelihood that he would miss the rest of the season – was forecast by coach Justin Langer in the lead-up to the Perth Scorchers' KFC Big Bash League semi-final against Melbourne Stars on January 22, for which he returned from the problem to take his place in the side.

The 25-year-old now faces the prospect of four months of rehabilitation – just the latest in an ongoing list of setbacks related to his back.

Behrendorff played just four Matador BBQs One-Day Cup matches in October having missed the end of last summer with stress fractures in his back, and took nine wickets in his two Shield matches to start the first-class season before being forced out with injury again.

The left-armer was the Domestic Player of the Year at the 2015 Allan Border Medal evening, and has been earmarked as a potential Australia representative, however injury has continually cruelled his chances.
