Behrendorff out for Shield season

Left-arm quick to miss remainder of domestic summer with stress fracture injury

Western Australian quick Jason Behrendorff will miss the remainder of the Bupa Sheffield Shield season after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in the right side of his lower back.

Behrendorff, who was last week named the Domestic Cricketer of the Year at the Allan Border Medal Ceremony in Sydney, has been a standout performer for the Warriors in both formats this summer, and was again instrumental in Perth Scorchers’ charge to back-to-back KFC T20 Big Bash League titles.

CT scans taken after the completion of the Big Bash League finals confirmed the extent of the injury.

The Warriors will take a conservative approach to Behrendorff’s rehabilitation and expect him to return to bowling during the 2015-16 pre-season.

The news comes only a short time after South Australian paceman Chadd Sayers was also ruled out for the remainder of the Shield season with an injury to his left ankle.

“Chadd was ruled out of the KFC T20 Big Bash due to inflammation in his left ankle. The injury was unresponsive to ongoing management and he will now require surgery," said John Porter, SACA Manager, Sports Science and Sports Medicine.

“The rehabilitation is expected to take approximately eight weeks and we will continue to manage his rehabilitation over the coming months.”
