Windies captain Holder cops ICC reprimand

Allrounder receives a demerit point from governing body for offensive language during second Test against England

West Indies captain Jason Holder has received a reprimand from the ICC following a couple of outbursts of frustration during day four of the second Test against England at Headingley.

Holder admitted the offence after play and was subsequently handed one demerit point; four or more within 24 months will result in a suspension.

The incidents occurred in the 70th over of England's second innings, when Holder, who was bowling, had batsman Dawid Malan dropped in the slips cordon, having beaten the bat either side of the missed chance.

His frustration was released in comments that were heard by both on-field umpires, and deemed to be in breach of Article 2.1.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an International Match".

Holder is the second player in the ongoing Leeds Test to fall foul of the ICC, after England's Ben Stokes earned a third demerit point for similar use of abusive language.

An apparent crackdown from the ICC regarding the matter has left at least two former internationals baffled, in ex-Australia batsman Dean Jones and Englishman Michael Vaughan, who took to Twitter to air their grievances.
