Injured Paris to miss start of BBL|06

Scorchers paceman suffered a side strain injury during an intra-club match ahead of Big Bash season

Fast bowler Joel Paris' injury curse has struck again on the eve of the KFC Big Bash League season, with the Perth Scorchers set to be without the left-armer for at least a month – if not the entire season as he battles a side strain.

Paris injured his right side during a Scorchers intra-squad T20 practice match on Thursday, undergoing scans on Friday which revealed the side strain.

The injury is expected to keep the quick out for four to six weeks.

Paris had already missed the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup and first half of the Sheffield Shield season with a left quad injury, only returning last week when he lined up for the Legends XI in the Western Australia Festival of Cricket match against the Scorchers.

Paris went wicketless in his three overs for the Legends XI, conceding 29 runs including 15 off his first over.

This latest setback continues a frustrating run for the 24-year-old, who announced himself as a player to watch during a brilliant run with the ball last summer.

Having missed a chunk of the 2014-15 season with a right quad injury, Paris made his first-class debut for the Warriors in November and impressed enough to be fast-tracked into Australia’s one-day team in January.

In six Shield matches in 2015-16, the lanky left-armer claimed 35 wickets at 19.57, taking a wicket every 36.4 balls.

On debut against Victoria at the WACA, Paris bagged six wickets in the match, including four in the first innings, in WA's heavy 356-run defeat.

In the following match, again in Perth, Paris announced himself a red-ball threat with 6-23 in Tasmania's second innings.

He went wicketless in his first ODI, against India at the WACA, but picked up his first wicket for his country three days later, capturing Shikhar Dhawan caught behind for six with his eighth ball at the Gabba.

Those performances were enough for the Western Australian to be bought by the Delhi Daredevils for AUD$63,000, before a "shin stress reaction" sustained in a Sheffield Shield clash against South Australia in March ended his hopes of appearing in the tournament.
