Duminy ruled out of ODI series

Knee injury sidelines left-hander for six weeks

South Africa allrounder JP Duminy will miss the upcoming one-day international series against Australia due to a long-standing knee problem that is set to sideline him for around six weeks.

The 30-year-old has been suffering from chronic patella tendinopathy in his left knee and Cricket South Africa announced he had aggravated the injury during the three-match T20 series against Australia, which concluded on Sunday.

Duminy, who scored just two runs as Australia won the deciding match in Sydney, will be replaced by Farhaan Behardien in the ODI squad while fast bowler Marchant de Lange has also been called up.

"JP aggravated his long-standing knee injury during the current T20 series against Australia," Proteas team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee said.

"This is the same injury that plagued him during the Tri-series in Zimbabwe and caused him to miss the Champions League T20.

"The recommendation from the medical committee is that he returns back to South Africa for a six-week period of rest and rehabilitation, particularly ahead of a busy season at home and the ICC World Cup in three months."

The first of South Africa's five ODIs against Australia takes places in Perth on Friday.
