Brilliant Rabada ruins another debut

Proteas speedster bowls Dawid Malan with a yorker on debut, just as he did to Nic Maddinson last summer

What is it about Kagiso Rabada and left-handed batsmen on Test debut?

South Africa's speedster made Dawid Malan's first day of Test cricket one to forget with a searing yorker on the first day of the third Test at The Oval.

De Kock flies to snare Root in spectacular fashion

The England left-hander had survived 17 deliveries on a tough day for batting in south London, managing just a single in that time. And a single was all he would get as Rabada, bowling over the wicket, produced a stunning in-swinging yorker that knocked Malan off his feet before crashing into middle stump.

In the 100th Test at The Oval, the image of Malan on his hands and knees with his stumps splayed said more than words could.

Malan had at least managed to get off the mark in his first Test, but nine months ago, Australian Nic Maddinson wasn't so lucky.

Maddinson was also undone by a brilliant Rabada yorker in his first Test innings at the Adelaide Oval last summer, dismissed for a duck.

Malan will be hoping that, unlike the unfortunate Maddinson, he gets a chance to bat in the second innings.
