Williamson's 'luck runs out'

Australia have had the better of Kane Williamson so far in New Zealand with the Black Caps batting coach at a loss to explain why

Kane Williamson hasn't changed anything about his batting which could be blamed for a poor run of scores against Australia, New Zealand's batting coach says.

Williamson scored two centuries in three Tests in Australia, and also one against Sri Lanka at home this summer but since the Australians arrived here he hasn't imposed himself as fans might have hoped.

In the one-day internationals he scored a 60 and 18, but also his first duck in three years in the format.

In the first Test at the Basin Reserve he was out for 16 and 22, both times caught behind.

Black Caps batting coach Craig McMillan says the 25-year-old former World No.1 batsman isn't doing anything differently and nor are the Australians in bowling to him.

"You just have periods at times where sometimes you have a bit of luck, sometimes you go through a nice period where you score runs.

"Other times you make the odd mistake that can prove costly. Today was a really good piece of bowling, the ball was reversing so whenever it's reversing it's difficult at times," McMillan said.

A change in technique couldn't be blamed for the lack of runs.

"There's nothing major that he's doing differently now that what he was doing in Australia, but unfortunately he's not quite nailing those scores like he was earlier in the season."
