Marnus misses out as Burns returns

Bulls chock-full of batting talent as Tasmania re-sign head coach Marsh

Last-start centurion Marnus Labuschagne is the unlucky man to make way as Queensland welcome back Test batsman Joe Burns for their Sheffield Shield match beginning this Saturday.

Following his 170 in the second Test of the Qantas Tour of New Zealand, Burns represents a huge boost to the myFootDR Queensland Bulls team for their clash with ladder-leaders Victoria, while fellow Test squad member Chadd Sayers will line-up for the West End Redbacks in their match against the Alcohol. Think Again Western Warriors at the WACA.

Quick Single: Big things expected of Doolan: Bailey

Labuschagne, who is fresh off scoring 103 and 52 in Queensland's narrow loss to Western Australia, was the unfortunate man to miss out among a young batting order that has fired under new Phil Jaques this summer.

Considering every other specialist batsman in the Bulls squad – including allrounder Jack Wildermuth – has made a first-class century this season, the Queensland selectors were faced with a difficult decision.

South Australia will be pleased to have Sayers – who took 6-28 for Glenelg in grade cricket on the weekend – back to bolster their bowling attack.

Fast bowler Nick Benton also returns to the Redbacks side, with Cameron Valente and left-arm spinner Tom Andrews omitted.

Quick Single: Harris would 'jump' at coaching opportunity

Meanwhile, Cricket Tasmania have re-signed Dan Marsh as head coach.

Marsh, who is son of national selector Rod Marsh and a former Tasmania representative himself, was out of contract at the end of the 2015-16 season but has accepted the offer of a two-year extension.

Since Marsh came to the helm in 2013-14, the number of Tasmanian-born players in the squad has increased by 20 per cent, which has been a priority for Cricket Tasmania with the retirements of big-name locals Ricky Ponting, Ben Hilfenhaus and Luke Butterworth in recent years.

The Tigers take on New South Wales in Hobart and the third-placed Blues look set to include Nathan Lyon in their squad as they push for a Shield final berth.

The Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers named their squad yesterday, with Test quick James Pattinson ruled out for the remainder of the season with a shin injury and Peter Handscomb named captain due to the absence of Matthew Wade, who will miss the match for the birth of his first child.

The Blues, Warriors and Tigers squads are set to be named in the coming days.
