Labuschagne's rare 'double out'

Missing a full toss saw Queensland No.3 given out leg before ... until he was bowled anyway

Can a batsman be bowled and given out leg before wicket from the same delivery? Legally no, but that's the fate that befell Queensland Bulls batsman Marnus Labuschagne on Friday.

During the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup match against the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers in Blacktown, Queensland's No.3 attempted a reverse sweep off the bowling of spinner Jon Holland.

Labuschagne was unable to make contact and was struck on the pad, with Umpire Gerard Abood taking little time and rule the batsman out LBW.

But seemingly unbeknownst to everyone out in the middle, aside from Labuschagne, the ball had trickled onto the stumps and removed the bails just a split second before Abood had raised his finger.

So while the on-field decision was LBW, Labuschagne was later ruled to be out bowled due to Law 30 of the Laws of Cricket, which states that Bowled takes precedence over all other modes of dismissal.
