Guptill hits the roof at Eden Park

We take a look at some of the biggest maximums of the summer after Martin Guptill's huge six in the first ODI

Martin Guptill has continued a summer of big hits and massive sixes, launching a Kane Richardson delivery onto the roof of the North Stand at Eden Park.

Guptill's massive hit was measured at 113m by the host broadcaster.

It came as New Zealand's openers launched an early salvo against Australia's bowlers in the first match of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy in Auckland.

Guptill and McCullum added 79  in 11 overs before the Black Caps skipper was bowled by a perfectly placed James Faulkner yorker.

Guptill’s towering strike comes after Dan Christian launched a 117-metre six onto the roof of the Gabba during the KFC Big Bash League earlier this summer.

The BBL saw a remarkable number of sixes disappear into – and sometimes over – stands around the country.

Young Brisbane Heat opener Jimmy Peirson deposited Jackson Bird onto the roof of the SCG pavilion.

During centre-wicket practice for the Sydney Thunder, explosive West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell smashed teammate Shane Watson onto the roof of Spotless stadium.

Back in BBL|02, Aaron Finch belted one into a pylon attached to the Etihad Stadium roof but was cruelly denied a maximum with umpires deeming it a dead-ball in line with the playing conditions at the time.

However, a change in the Big Bash playing conditions meant when Finch repeated the trick the following season against the Melbourne Stars, this time receiving full reward for the monster strike that hit the Etihad roof.
