Australia seal series at the SCG

Warner's latest SCG century powers Australia as they take a 3-1 series lead over Pakistan

The scorecard: Australia 6-353 (Warner 130, Maxwell 78, Head 51, Hasan 5-52) beat Pakistan 267 (Sharjeel 74, Zampa 3-55) by 86 runs

The match in a tweet: Wonderful Warner tons up at the SCG (again!) and Maxwell also fires as Australia claim the series win on a day of fielding blunders

#Stumps at the SCG: Warner leads the way again

The hero: Given David Warner's recent record at the SCG and in ODI cricket, it didn't come as any great surprise that he posted three figures again this afternoon. The left-hander scored a hundred here against India almost 12 months ago to the day and followed that with centuries in St Kitts, Pallekele, Durban, Cape Town, Canberra and Melbourne in a record-breaking 2016. And he made it eight ODI tons in less than 12 months with another century today, a superb innings that ended on 130 from just 119 balls. Today's knock was also the sixth time from Warner's past 11 innings at the SCG across all formats that he's scored a century, including the hundred he posted here before lunch on day one of the third Test a few weeks ago. The opener hit 11 fours and two sixes today, laying the platform for the fireworks to follow.

Warner continues SCG love affair with super 130

The finisher I: The role made famous in this side by James Faulkner fell to Australia's middle order today and Victorian Glenn Maxwell delivered. After Warner and Steve Smith were dismissed in the space of three deliveries, Maxwell and Travis Head shared a 100-run partnership in little more than 10 overs, with Head hitting four sixes in his fourth ODI half-century before he fell with three-and-a-half overs remaining. And Maxwell accelerated after losing his batting partner, hammering 10 fours in all as well as one incredible reverse sweep for six from the seventh ball he faced. He was dismissed from the final ball of the innings, chasing what would have been his seventh four in 10 deliveries.

Marvellous Maxi blasts brisk 78

The finisher II: A little more than six months since making his debut, Travis Head has already made himself a near certain selection in Australia's middle order. Today's innings of 51 from 36 balls was exactly what his side needed after losing their two set batsmen in the same over and it continues an impressive run of consistency in the one-day game. The left-hander has been dismissed for less than 30 just twice in his past 11 ODI innings and his half-century today was his third in his past seven matches.

The turning point: Pakistan were always up against it chasing 354 to win, but were a chance of reeling in any total as long as Sharjeel Khan was at the crease. The powerful opener took on Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood early on as Pakistan hammered 47 runs from the first six overs and he continued the assault against the spin of Travis Head and Adam Zampa. But he went for one shot too many off Zampa, holing out for 74 from just 47 balls and while Pakistan continued to fight, their chances of victory all but disappeared when their opener departed.

Sharjeel blitz powers Pakistan reply

The stat: The difference in batting power between these two sides is illustrated perfectly by the end to Australia's innings here today and that of Pakistan's in Perth on Thursday. The home side plundered 118 runs in the final 10 overs having lost three wickets in the first 40, while Pakistan managed just 50 runs from their last 10 at the WACA having been four wickets down. Obviously the two matches were played at different venues and on different surfaces, but 68 runs is a significant margin.

The drops I: Pakistan dropped four catches they should have taken during Australia's innings, but this attempt by Sharjeel Khan in the gully - an effort labelled "lazy" by Michael Clarke in commentary - was probably the worst of the lot.

Sharjeel's 'lazy effort' hands Smith a life

The drops II: Pakistan had a horror day in the field, but Australia missed their share of opportunities as well. A few tight run out chances went begging and then two catches went down in the space of just two deliveries, a frustrating performance for the home side despite the convincing win.

The catch: While Sharjeel, Hasan Ali and Usman Khawaja all put down catches they should have taken, David Warner produced one of the highlights of the night with this brilliant diving effort in the deep. And didn't he love it!

The five-fa: Hasan Ali's figures of 5-52 were not only the best of his career, it was the first five-wicket haul taken across three Tests and four ODIs between Australia and Pakistan this summer.

The spinner: After a frustrating few weeks that has seen him left out of Australia's ODI side and overlooked for the Test tour of India, Adam Zampa got his chance tonight and excelled in the batsmen-friendly conditions. With his trademark headband in place, the leggie continued to toss the ball up when the dangerous Sharjeel was on the attack and was rewarded with the crucial wicket during his third over. The leading ODI wicket-taker in the world last year, Zampa finished with 3-55 from 10 overs and he's given selectors plenty to think about ahead of the final match of the series in Adelaide and their upcoming three-match series in New Zealand.
