Warriors smash 262 in easy victory

Kumar Sangakkara led an entertaining batting display that has guided Warne's Warriors to a comfortable victory in the second Cricket All Stars match in Houston.

Sangakkara smashed 70 from just 30 balls as the Warriors racked up 5-262 from their 20 overs after Sachin Tendulkar sent them into bat.

All five of the Warriors' dismissed batsmen - Michael Vaughan, Matthew Hayden, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting and Sangakkara - scored at least 30.

Sachin's Blasters were never a chance in reply, with Shaun Pollock top-scoring with 55 from 22 balls as they finished with 8-205 to lose by 57 runs.

The Warriors batted first in front of a crowd of around 27,000 at Minute Maid Park - the regular home of the Houston Astros baseball team - and one time Ashes rivals Hayden and Vaughan made a brisk start.

Vaughan stroked four boundaries and a six in scoring 30 from 22 balls before he was trapped in front by former teammate Graeme Swann, while Hayden hit two fours and three sixes in scoring 32 from 15 balls before he was also dismissed by a former teammate, bowled by Glenn McGrath.

Kallis and Sangakkara - who will both turn out in the KFC Big Bash League this summer - then shared a 91-run partnership before the South African was dismissed for 45 from 23 balls, including four sixes.

Sangakkara shared another quickfire partnership with Ponting, who hit his way to 41 from 16 balls before he was dismissed by Lance Klusener.

The Sri Lankan was the star of the innings, smacking six fours and six sixes in a 30-ball innings of 70 before some late hitting from Andrew Symonds (19 from six balls) and Jonty Rhodes (18 from eight balls) propelled the Warriors to their massive total.

Virender Sehwag opened with Tendulkar and smacked two sixes early on before he was bowled by Agit Agarkar for 16, with countryman Saurav Ganguly the next to go for 12.

Brian Lara joined Tendulkar at the crease, two of the greatest batsmen of all time enjoying a mouth-watering duel with Shane Warne.

Lara lofted the spinner down the ground for a boundary but was eventually bowled by Symonds for 19, while Tendulkar hit 33 from 20 balls before he was undone by the spin of Pakistan's Saqlain Mushtaq.

Saqlain was the star with the ball, bowling 12 dot balls and a maiden in a three-over spell that yielded 2-12.

Pollock, Klusener and Swann swung hard late on to add some respectability to the total as Symonds finished with incredible figures of 4-70 from four overs to go with the three wickets he took in the first match in New York on Sunday.

The final game of Cricket All Stars will be played a Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday.
