Voges stars as legends clash in Perth

Former Ashes combatants turned back the clock but it was a current player who stole the show in the Festival of Cricket clash in Perth on Tuesday.

Former Australia Test batsman Adam Voges starred with bat and ball as an Australia side beat a World XI in the fifth staging of the exhibition event, which this year was at UWA Sports Park, Mount Claremont.

Voges picked up 3-25 from three overs with his left-arm spin before hitting 41 from 27 balls as the Australian side chased down their target of 180 with nine balls to spare in the T20 match.

The match started with an uncharacteristic wide from legendary quick Glenn McGrath bowling to his former Ashes opponent, ex-England captain Michael Vaughan.

Vaughan (25 from 13 balls) hammered two trademark pull shots for six as he and England Lions opener Keaton Jennings (55 from 26 balls) put on 46 for the first wicket inside four overs.

Voges and former Test swing bowler Trent Copeland (3-29) did the damage as the All Star XI finished with 7-179 from their 20 overs.

Former Australia batsmen Mark Cosgrove and Ed Cowan then put on 51 for the first wicket before Voges hit four fours and a six before being stumped off the bowling of former England allrounder Adam Hollioake.
