India beat Pakistan despite Amir heroics

Pakistan routed for 83 as bitter rivals India survive sensational spell from Amir to win Asia Cup match

An inspired spell of fast bowling from Mohammad Amir wasn't enough for Pakistan to defend a meagre total of 83 in their Asia Cup clash against fierce rivals India.

Virat Kohli smashed 49 to lead the ICC World T20 hosts to a five-wicket win in Mirpur after both sides suffered massive batting collapses.

A brilliant spell from Amir (3-18 from four overs) reduced India to 3-8 before Kohli steadied his side and helped them to overhaul Pakistan's small total with almost five overs left.

Amir trapped Rohit Sharma lbw with the second ball of the run chase - he had a ferocious appeal for lbw turned down first ball - before he produced another delightful inswinger to remove Ajinkya Rahane with his fourth ball and leave India reeling at 2-2. He then removed Suresh Raina for 1 with the fourth ball of his next over.

But Kohli steadied the innings with Yuvraj Singh, who finished unbeaten on 14, the duo combining a 68-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Earlier, India fast bowler Hardik Pandya returned his career best 3-8.

Left arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja claimed 2-11 while fast bowlers Ashish Nehra, Jasprit Bumrah and left arm spinner Yuvraj Singh chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Only two Pakistan batsmen could reach double digits in its lowest total against India. Sarfraz Khan scored 25 while Khurram Manzoor added 10.

The 83 Pakistan scored was their lowest total when batting first in Twenty20 cricket.
