Amir equals record in win over UAE

Fast-bowler equals dot ball record and Shoaib Malik hits an unbeaten 63 as Pakistan beat UAE in the Asia Cup

Shoaib Malik smashed 63 not out and Mohammad Amir produced a record-breaking spell as Pakistan beat United Arab Emirates by seven wickets in their Asia Cup clash in Bangladesh.

UAE made 6-129 in its 20 overs after opting to bat first before Pakistan survived an early stumble to reach the winning total with 3-131 in 18.4 overs.

Malik was aided by Umar Akmal who hit an unbeaten 50, the duo combining for an unbroken 114 fourth-wicket partnership after Pakistan was reduced to 3-17 early on. UAE medium-fast bowler Amjad Javed claimed 3-36.

Javed also scored a fluent 27 not out to pace the UAE innings. Shaiman Anwar was the top scorer with 46 and steadied UAE from a precarious 3-12.

The UAE innings was halted by Amir, fresh from his brilliant spell against India on Saturday, who returned figures of 2-6 from four overs.

The left-armer's sent down 21 dot balls in his spell, which equals the record for T20 internationals, and his performance was the equal-second most economical four-over spell in the history of the international game.

Amir finished with an economy rate of 1.50 an over from four overs, just short of the record of Hong Kong's Aizaz Khan, who took 1-4 from four overs against Nepal in 2014.

The UAE could manage only three scoring shots from the 24 balls Amir bowled; a single to mid-on, and inside edge to deep backward square leg for a single and a boundary to Muhammad Usman, who backed away from his stumps and hammered one past point. Usman would try to same tactic again three balls later and was bowled.
