Timeless Younis puts Pakistan in control

Veteran batsman shows his class yet again in another epic partnership with skipper Misbah-ul-Haq to frustrate West Indies bowlers

A century from Younis Khan and an unbeaten 90 from skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has helped Pakistan reach 4-304 on day one of the second Test against the West Indies in Abu Dhabi.

Pakistan's record runscorer Younis had missed the first day/night Test victory in Dubai as he recovered from a bout of dengue fever.

The veteran right-hander produced a vintage display on his return to record a 33rd Test century before he was eventually out for 127 to what proved to be the last ball of the day from Kraigg Brathwaite.

Misbah, batting at number five after winning the toss, helped guide his side along towards a comfortable first-innings total, with his stay including four fours and two sixes as he closed in on another hundred.

West Indies, who have not beaten a major Test nation away from home since December 2007, had opportunities to dismiss both men earlier in the day on what was a slow, batting-friendly pitch at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

In the last over before tea, Brathwaite dropped a caught-and-bowled chance when Younis had been on 83.

Misbah, on 54, was later spilled by a diving stand-in wicketkeeper Shai Hope after edging a ball from Shannon Gabriel behind.

After Younis' wicket fell in the 84th over, the umpires called play off for bad light with nightwatchman Yasir Shah set to come in alongside Misbah, who equalled the record of Imran Khan as

Pakistan captain for his 48th Test match.

Earlier, Asad Shafiq made 68 to steady the innings after Gabriel had bowled Azhar Ali - who hit 302 not out in the first innings in Dubai - for a nine-ball duck.

Fellow opener Sami Aslam was dismissed for six in what proved to be rare successes for the tourists' attack, which failed to build on restricting Pakistan to 42 for two in the 14th over.
