Bushrangers topple Bulls in Alice Springs

Victoria move to top spot with dominant innings victory in the Red Centre

The Victorian Buchrangers have dealt the myFootDr Queensland Bulls' Bupa Sheffield Shield hopes a major blow with a crushing innings win inside three days in Alice Springs.

A disciplined all-round bowling performance dismissed Queensland for just 168, still 14 runs shy of making Victoria bat a second time.

Bulls' No.3 Peter Forrest played a virtual lone hand, scoring nearly half his team's runs with his unbeaten 82.

Middle-order batsman Michael Philipson was the only other Queenslander to pass 20, making 37 and sharing a 91-run fourth-wicket stand with Forrest.

Australian Test bowler Peter Siddle collected the best figures (3-28), while leading Shield wicket-taker Fawad Ahmed nabbed two more scalps to go with his five-wicket haul in the first innings.

With two rounds remaining, the result could push Victoria into second spot depending on the result on Saturday's final day in Newcastle between competition frontrunners NSW and Western Australia.
