Pattinson, Vics roll Bulls, secure home final

Pattinson the destroyer as Bushrangers seal a home final in Alice Springs

Queensland's push for a Sheffield Shield final berth has come to ignominious end, with the Bulls fired out for just 61 to suffer an innings and 11-run defeat against Victoria in Brisbane.

Test fast bowler James Pattinson mowed through the Queensland top order to earn figures of 5-7 from six overs.

Pattinson rips through Bulls in Shield

At one stage the Bulls were 7-22, and in serious danger of being bowled out for well below their lowest-ever Shield innings total - 49 against Victoria in 1936.

Their tally, nevertheless, is the lowest since 1982 when they were bowled out for 52 against Western Australian in Perth, and it's their second lowest ever on home soil.

The win on Saturday ensures Victoria finish top of the ladder to earn hosting rights for the final, which begins on 26 March in Alice Springs.

Needing a victory at Allan Border Field to move into contention for a spot in the season decider, Queensland restricted their opponents to a 71-run first-innings lead.

However, they were on the back foot from the opening over and were 2-1 at lunch.

Only retiring captain wicketkeeper Chris Hartley managed an innings of more than 30 balls before he was last man out for 18.
