The collapse: RCB may have lost the wicket of Travis Head early in the run chase, but they were travelling nicely when Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers moved the score to 1-32 midway through the fifth over. But it was all downhill from there, losing 8-64 as their innings all but grinded to a halt. Kohli's innings of 55 from 48 balls was more than 57 per cent of his team's total - the second-highest in IPL history - as no other player posted a double-figure score. In an already horror season, this was RCB's lowest point.

The hero: In just his second game of IPL cricket, Kiwi quick Lockie Ferguson produced the equal-third most economical spell in the tournament's history, finishing with 2-7 from his four overs, including the key wicket of de Villiers. He was well supported by South African spinner Imran Tahir as the RPS bowlers seemingly did as they pleased.

The stat: AB de Villiers has been dismissed for scores of 8, 5 and 3 in his past three innings, his longest streak of single-figure scores in the IPL.

The skipper: It was a dream night for RPS's Aussie skipper Steve Smith, who fired again with the bat and could do no wrong in the field. The right-hander contributed 45 from 32 balls to move to fourth on the tournament's run-scoring charts and he also took a sharp catch diving forward in the field. Having taken over from MS Dhoni as skipper and watched his team make a slow start to the tournament, Smith has now led his side to four victories from their past five matches and they are just two wins from top spot on the table.

The Aussie pack: Smith led the way for the Aussie trio involved while allrounder Dan Christian continued to have a solid tournament, picking up the wicket of Kohli late in the match. But Travis Head couldn't take his chance at the top of the order, falling for just two as RCB's batting order collapsed.

The fallout: RPS are now two wins clear of the bottom four and could make that gap even bigger when they take on fifth-placed Gujarat on Monday. RCB, meanwhile, are already facing the prospect of missing the playoffs and are struggling in seventh place with just two wins from 10 matches.
