Renshaw, Bulls dominate day one

Queensland opener continues impressive Shield season brilliant century

Queensland rookie opener Matt Renshaw continued his stellar season by cracking an impressive 146 to lead the Bulls to 5-357 against South Australia at stumps on Wednesday's opening day of their Sheffield Shield match at Adelaide Oval.

Although sitting second on the ladder, the Redbacks had no answer to Renshaw's aggressive batting. He notched a second ton in his sixth Shield match.

The 19-year-old left-hander made full use of Adelaide Oval's short boundaries, crashing seven sixes in his 244-ball knock.

Notably, recent Test squad inclusion Chadd Sayers struggled to make an impact, returning figures of 1-75 from 22 overs.

Joe Mennie was the best of the SA bowlers, claiming the wicket of Renshaw on his way to 2-55 off 23 overs.

Test opening batsman Joe Burns failed to make the most of a promising start, dismissed for 35 to give debutant left-arm spinner Tom Andrews his first wicket.

No.3 Chris Hemphrey fell for the same score and, when Chris Lynn (29) was out, the Bulls were 3-173.

However, a fourth-wicket stand of 120 between Renshaw and Sam Heazlett (75) turned the momentum back in the Bulls' favour.
