Bancroft ton has Warriors in control

Cameron Bancroft scored a century to set South Australia a tough chase on the final day of their Sheffield Shield clash in Adelaide

Western Australian opener Cameron Bancroft struck a century to set up an imposing final-day run chase for South Australia in their Sheffield Shield match.

Chasing 316 to win, the Redbacks are 0-17 at stumps on Sunday's third day of play at Adelaide Oval.

Test candidate Bancroft was the mainstay of WA's second innings, top-scoring with 111 before being run out.

The 22-year-old had been widely tipped for a Test debut in the first Test against New Zealand but Australian selectors opted instead for Joe Burns.

Bancroft shelved any disappointment with a patient knock on Sunday which was rewarded with his fifth first-class ton.

The right-hander combined with fellow Test hopeful Shaun Marsh (92) for a 172-run partnership which put WA in a position of power at 2-217.

But Marsh's dismissal triggered a slide with the Warriors losing their last eight wickets for 78 runs to give SA a sniff of victory.

Pacemen Joe Mennie (3-56) and Kane Richardson (3-54) were influential in SA's fightback.
