Bushrangers thump Redbacks to head Shield

Victoria move to the top of the Sheffield Shield table with innings win over South Australia

The Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers  have trounced the West End Redbacks by an innings and one run to move a step closer to securing a spot in the Bupa Sheffield Shield final.

The Bushrangers need only to defeat Tasmania in the final round to book their berth in the decider after their comprehensive triumph against the last-placed Redbacks in Adelaide.

Siddle made a mess of the Redbacks lineup on day three

Victoria, after posting 6(dec)-534, bowled SA out for 175 and 358 at Glenelg Oval.

The Redbacks' second innings ended some 50 minutes after lunch on Sunday's final day of play with Marcus Stoinis (3-27), Dan Christian (2-38), Scott Boland (2-52) and Fawad Ahmed (2-83) among the wickets.

If Victoria beat Tasmania, who have won only two games this season, they will play the winner of Western Australia's encounter with NSW.

The Bushrangers clinically wrapped up a precious outright win despite stubborn resistance from SA's 21-year-old captain Travis Head, who top-scored with 85.

But Head couldn't find a long-standing partner, with Jake Lehmann, son of Australian coach Darren, dismissed for 39 early in the first session.

Wicketkeeper Tim Ludeman (1) soon followed before former Redback allrounder Christian dismissed Adam Zampa (21) and Joe Mennie (4) in the space of two overs to end SA's slim hopes of scraping a draw.
