Voges double hands WA first-innings honours

Warriors skipper continues incredible run of form with career-high 249

Former South Australia captain Michael Klinger said he was happy to prove a few people wrong after belting back-to-back centuries against his old team as he helped steer Western Australia to 8-611 at stumps on day three of their Bupa Sheffield Shield clash.

Klinger backed up his 190 against South Australia last week with another impressive 151, smashing 21 boundaries and two sixes.

Klinger continued his dominance over South Australia in style

The stunning shift also included a record 311-run partnership with Warriors captain Adam Voges, the biggest third wicket stand by WA against SA in a Shield match.

"It's pretty pleasing, obviously a hundred against anyone is nice," Klinger said.

"It's nice to prove some people wrong in a way but just to contribute to the team and make sure we're in a position to win the game tomorrow."

Klinger was eventually caught by Tom Cooper at gully off a Trent Lawford delivery, while Voges batted his way to a career-best 249 before he too was removed by the same combination.

Klinger said he felt he could have gone on to post a bigger score despite being dismissed just before tea.

"Time-wise you could have got 300," Klinger said.

"You saw 'Vogesy' and (he) could have, but I think he felt a bit of fatigue towards the end.

"I still felt really good so in a way it was great to get runs but you always want to make them big when you get the opportunity."

Voges also posted back-to-back centuries after scoring 101 against SA last week in a 215-run first innings partnership with Klinger.

Day three's stunning partnership places WA in a commanding position heading into the final day's play, leading the Redbacks by 142 runs.

Ashton Agar raced his way to 58 from just 44 balls, belting four boundaries and four sixes, and will be joined at the crease when play resumes by Simon Mackin on one.

Agar made a quick-fire half-century late on day three

On day three the Warriors posted 442 runs with Shaun Marsh adding 33, Tom Beaton 22, Sam Whiteman 10 and Nathan Coulter-Nile 11 runs.

Lawford has 3-140 after his 49 overs while Adam Zampa has 2-211 after a horror day with the ball.
