Seamer Ishant Sharma finished with 5-54 to help India take a first-innings lead of 111 runs.

Ishant had put his team in the driving seat by getting movement off the pitch with the new ball to ruin Sri Lanka's top order.

The lanky quick had Upul Tharanga (4) caught at slip by Rahul and after Umesh Yadav removed Kaushal Silva and Stuart Binny dismissed Dinesh Chandimal for 23 - the latter via an incorrect LBW decision - Ishant returned to get captain Angelo Mathews (1) edging behind with his first ball of a new spell.

He then removed Lahiru Thirimanne straight after lunch to leave the home side in danger of following on.

Earlier, Pujara carried his bat with an unbeaten 145 as the tourists added 20 to their overnight score of 8-292 before being dismissed 25 minutes after play began.

Sri Lanka won the opening Test in Galle by 63 runs and India drew level with a 278-run victory in the second match at the P Sara Oval in Colombo.
