Lehmann steady as Siddle destroys SA

Test paceman takes four wickets after Hussey and Wade help Victoria to big first-innings total

Jake Lehmann, son of Darren, made a half-century on first-class debut for South Australia as Victoria took a stranglehold on the Bupa Sheffield Shield game in Adelaide.

Lehmann, a 22-year-old left-hander, top-scored with an unbeaten 50 but the Redbacks are in trouble at 5-134 at stumps on Friday's day two - some 400 runs behind.

Victoria's Test paceman Peter Siddle (4-29) shredded SA's top order by taking four of the wickets - the other was a run out.

But Lehmann offered some resistance with a polished effort in his maiden first-class innings.

Lehmann came to the crease after Siddle triggered a Redbacks collapse - they were 4-45 after the fast bowler dismissed Mark Cosgrove for 17 and Callum Ferguson and Tom Cooper, both for ducks.

Opener Kelvin Smith (22) was then run out as SA faltered in reply to Victoria's imposing first innings of 6(dec)-534, which featured a superb 145 by David Hussey.

Lehmann then combined with his 21-year-old captain Travis Head for a 77-run partnership for the fifth wicket which not only offered SA some respectability but also a glimpse of the future.

But Siddle returned to break the stand, bowling Head for 36.

Earlier, the Bushrangers declared their innings after lunch with veteran Hussey plundering a century.

Hussey cracked 19 fours and four sixes in his knock to join Quiney as century makers.

The duo were ably supported by Matthew Wade, who made 83, and former SA allrounder Dan Christian hit an aggressive 57 not out which featured two towering sixes and six fours.

Only Peter Handscomb (14) failed to make runs with Chris Rogers (47) and Marcus Stoinis (51) also contributing to the imposing total for the second-placed Bushrangers.

Redbacks legspinner Adam Zampa claimed 3-145 from 29 overs with quick Kane Richardson (2-131) the only other multiple wicket-taker.
