Super Sixers stifle Heat at Hurstville

Not everything went to plan for the Sydney Sixers, but they have again denied Brisbane Heat in an entertaining contest with bat and ball

The Sydney Sixers have rocketed to the top of the WBBL table with an 18-run win over the Brisbane Heat.

An Erin Burns half-century highlighted the Sixers' 7-144 on Hurstville Oval in Sydney.

The home side defended well to notch their second triumph over the Heat in as many days.

Match highlights: Sixers withstand Heat challenge

Burns followed her best dig of the season with a terrific catch to snare Beth Mooney, the WBBL's leading run-scoring heading into the game, for a duck in the Heat's first over.

The Sixers continued to bowl tightly, with the Heat still needing 87 runs from the last nine overs before Jess Jonassen started blasting away.

She hit three sixes in her unbeaten 55 off just 38 balls to give the Heat a sniff, before the Sixers' spinners applied the clamps at the death and proved too difficult to get away.

Kimmince belts it out of the ground

The day started horribly for the reigning champions when Thursday's match-winner Alyssa Healy was trapped lbw off the first delivery of the day.

Ashleigh Gardner's enterprising 26 had the Sixers going again before Burns' 54 not out ultimately proved the difference.

Delissa Kimmince (3-23) was the pick of the Heat bowlers.
