Blues-Warriors Shield clash ends in draw

Warriors can't force an outright win on day four at the WACA Ground

An unbeaten final-day century to Kurtis Patterson has helped to guide NSW to what is an important draw in their Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia at the WACA Ground.

The Blues reached 5-303 late on day four when the match drew to a close, leading the Alcohol.Think Again Warriors by 108 runs.

Patterson was the star for NSW making the third century of his first-class career and remaining 129 not out at the close of play on Wednesday.

The draw keeps NSW in the hunt to finish second with three games to go but, for the Warriors, they would likely need three outright wins to be any hope.

The Blues began their second innings trailing by 195 and lost Nick Larkin for 11 late on day three, but Patterson and Daniel Hughes then combined for a defiant 116-run stand.

Hughes made 54 to back up his 124 from the first innings before being trapped lbw by Michael Hogan. Nic Maddinson then made 46 in a 66-run stand with Patterson until he was being caught by Michael Klinger at slip off Hilton Cartwright just before tea.

Ben Rohrer was out for four shortly after the break to revive WA's hopes, but Patterson and Carters have gone a long way to snuffing those out.
