Wade wants World Cup glory in 2019

Matthew Wade is craving a shot at World Cup glory, having been one of five members of the current squad to miss out on Australia's triumph last year.

Australia's summer of transition will continue on Tuesday, when they switch to white-ball mode after Test series against New Zealand and West Indies.

Selectors have named a youthful 13-man squad for the upcoming five-match ODI series against India, which starts at the WACA Ground.

Almost half of Australia's 2015 World Cup squad are no longer there - be it through retirement, injury or form.

Wade now finds himself not only in the side but a leader - having played 53 ODIs.

"For myself and the more senior players we've got to try and lead the team to that (2019) World Cup then the younger players jump on board," Wade said.

"That's the exciting thing about the one-day squad, there's a lot of youth.

"I was probably one of the younger players when we were looking at (planning for) the last World Cup and didn't get there, so that's a goal of mine."

Coach Darren Lehmann admitted he had one eye on Australia's title defence.

"But we've got to live right in the present here against India, who are a quality one-day side," Lehmann added.

"We've got to start well and win every series we play. That sort of builds on to 2019, so we don't look too far ahead."

The 2019 tournament is a clear goal for Wade, who also aspires to be behind the stumps for the Test side.

However, the Victorian knows full well he can't afford to think about it too much.

"I'll be 31 or 32 when that World Cup comes around, so (it's the) perfect time in my career to be performing consistently," he said.\

"I'd love to get the opportunity to represent Australia in a World Cup and hopefully win one.

"That's a personal goal of mine but there's a lot of games in-between. If I focus too far ahead I suppose I'll miss out."

Wade returned from a fractured collarbone during the Big Bash League and admits the injury still bothers him occasionally.

"It pulls up a little bit sore at times but you push through it," he said.

"It's feeling good. I've played back to back games now consistently."
