Lanning belts highest score in WNCL history

Aussie skipper blasts incredible 190 against Tasmania in WNCL thrashing in Hobart

Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars captain Meg Lanning has broken her own Australian women's domestic cricket record for the highest individual score, smashing 190 against Tasmania in their WNCL clash.

Lanning's knock came off just 153 balls, and included a whopping 27 fours and one six at Blundstone Oval in Hobart, as Victoria posted 3-320 against Tasmania.

The score was the highest in the 21-season history of the Women's National Cricket League, bettering the 175 she hit against the ACT in 2012.

"It was nice to get a big score," Lanning said.

"The deck was really good to bat on and the outfield really fast, so it was go on and make a big hundred."

In a day of records, Lanning's second-wicket partnership of 288 with former Southern Stars batter Jess Cameron (108) was also the highest in history of the competition for any wicket.

Lanning also stood a chance of becoming the first batter to score a double century in the competition heading into the last over, before she was bowled by off-spinner Erin Burns while trying to hit the ball over the leg side.

However she said she wasn't disappointed in missing out on the milestone.

"I was a bit tired towards the end," she said. "So I was just trying to hit a boundary every ball. You're bound to get out if you try and do that."

In reply, Tasmania were dismissed for 163, handing Victoria a 157-run victory.

In Sydney, Lanning's Australia teammate Ellyse Perry blazed a century of her own in NSW Breakers' convincing 107-run win over Western Australia.
