Renegades name Ferguson replacement

Four BBL teams announce their squads for a super Saturday of T20 action

Melbourne Renegades have today announced Ben McDermott, the son of former Australia fast  bowler and current Bupa Support Staff assistant coach Craig McDermott, as Callum Ferguson's replacement for the remainder of the KFC Big Bash League season.

Ferguson tore his ACL in his left knee on the eve of the BBL season while fielding for the Renegades in a T20 practice match at Junction Oval.

McDermott represented Brisbane Heat twice in January 2014, scoring 30 and 0, and featured in Australia's U19 team as a wicketkeeper-batsman.

"I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to be part of the squad for the remainder of this BBL campaign," McDermott said.

"It’s a talented group with lots of experienced players and I’m looking forward to getting to know them and play my role."

The 21-year-old comes into the 13-man squad for off-spinner Nathan Hauritz after the former Test tweaker conceded 0-29 from two overs in the record 10-wicket loss to Perth Scorchers on Wednesday.

The Renegades collide with cross-town rivals Melbourne Stars tomorrow night at the MCG, with the hosts making three changes to the squad that defeated Sydney Sixers by five wickets last Sunday at the SCG.

English import Kevin Pietersen returns after flying to and from London for the birth of his second child, alongside allrounder John Hastings and left-arm fast bowler Jackson Coleman.

Making way for the incoming trio are Scott Boland, Tom Triffitt and Rob Quiney.

In Saturday's second fixture, Perth have named an unchanged squad from the one that defeated the Renegades, while Sydney have replaced veteran wicketkeeper Brad Haddin with spinner Will Somerville for the clash at #TheFurnace.

Haddin suffered a groin strain while batting in last night's thrilling five-wicket loss to Adelaide Strikers.

"I felt something pop in my groin in the last over," Haddin, who made an unbeaten 54 from 35 balls, told Network Ten.

"I've never had an issue with my groin before so I don't really know. I'm not sure (how serious it is).

"I felt something pop and I couldn't push out of my stance at the end (of the innings). It's a bit frustrating."
