Stars skipper confirmed for BBL|06

David Hussey says he has unfinished business as Melbourne Stars captain and rules out tilt at Bushrangers' head coach job

David Hussey will return to captain the Melbourne Stars for another KFC Big Bash League season, believing he has unfinished business with last season's runners-up.

Hussey, who took over as skipper for BBL|05 and subsequently led the Stars to the final for the first time, has re-signed for the upcoming season alongside pace bowler Daniel Worrall, rounding out the MCG-based club's squad for the summer.

The pain of losing the BBL|05 final to the Sydney Thunder has the 39-year-old determined to take his team one better in BBL|06.

"I had a ball last year, a breath of fresh air, it felt like a new squad and I think (coach) Steve Fleming’s brought a nice relaxed atmosphere and environment to the group," Hussey told News Ltd.

"I thought maybe there was a little bit of unfinished business losing in the grand final, hopefully we can go one step further this season."

Highlights: Sydney Thunder win first BBL title

The Stars go into the summer with one of the most settled rosters in the Big Bash. Only Hussey and Worrall were out of contract and with both now locked in – and with internationals Kevin Pietersen and Luke Wright to wear green once again - the MCG-based club can now turn their full attention to the task ahead.

Meanwhile, Hussey has ruled out a bid to replace David Saker as Victoria head coach, content to remain the Bushrangers' batting mentor for the time being.

The top job at the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers is vacant after Saker's appointment as an assistant coach with the Australian team.

"I loved playing for Victoria and I want to be part of their coaching structure for many years to come, but I think it’s a little bit too soon for me at the moment.

"I’m really passionate about getting the next young Victorian players, or batsman, into the Test team.

"I think we’ve lacked a good quality batsman in the Test team for quite some time.

"I’d like to see a Marcus Stoinis or a Peter Handscomb or a young Sam Harper or Travis Dean even coming through and playing a lot of Test cricket for Australia."

BBL as you've never seen it before

The Stars have also re-signed Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars leg-spinner Kristen Beams for the upcoming Women's Big Bash League season.

Beams is the fourth player confirmed by the Stars for WBBL|02, joining national skipper Meg Lanning, former Southern Star Jess Cameron and Emma Kearney at the club.

The Stars have also confirmed they will hit the road this summer, with both the men's and women's teams to play a match in Albury on December 13.

The men will play a warm-up grand final reply against the Thunder, while the women's fixture is part of the WBBL|02 regular season.
