Carberry tries to get rid of another bat

Englishman loses his grip on things in first outing for BBL club Perth Scorchers

New Perth Scorchers recruit Michael Carberry has had another issue with his bat, around a year after his bat was snapped in half by a delivery from Australian paceman Ryan Harris.

In his first match for the Scorchers at #TheFurnace in Western Australia, Carberry made 27 as opener on Monday night.

Scorecard: Scorchers v Strikers

However, it was his throw everything at it attitude that could be remembered longer than how many runs he made against the Adelaide Strikers.

Facing up to Strikers quick Kane Richardson when just on seven, Carberry tried to smash one into another state and lost grip on the handle of his bat – which proceeded to go flying.

Both Richardson and Carberry shared wry grins as Channel 10 commentators estimated how far the bat travelled in the air, Adam Gilchrist suggesting 15-20 metres.

This time last year Carberry was part of England’s Test side which lost the Ashes to Australia 5-0, and although there were few reasons to smile for the Englishmen during that series the left-hander’s broken bat moment did provide some light relief.
