Clarke re-injures hamstring in Perth

Bailey to take over from injured captain

Michael Clarke's hamstring troubles have struck again, the skipper ruled out of the rest of today's Carlton Mid ODI against South Africa in Perth due to injury.

The skipper says he felt his left hamstring "grab" when running between wickets during his innings of 11 from 20 balls, before he was caught behind off the bowling of Dale Steyn.

Clarke also suffered hamstring problems during Australia's recent tours of Zimbabwe and the UAE.

"I don't know much to be honest. I've just got to have that scan (tomorrow) and see what shows up," Clarke told Channel Nine.

"My fingers are crossed that it's not that bad and I'll be able to fix the problem.

"But the fact is that I've had this injury three times in the past 12 weeks.

"It's on the same leg, I've had a long stint of rehab trying to get it strong and unfortunately it's come back again.

"That's not positive but I know I've got experts who will be looking at it. So I'm in good hands and obviously I'll just have to listen to them."

Clarke's injury comes less than three weeks out from the first Commonwealth Bank Test against India, which starts on December 4 at the Gabba.

Brad Haddin is also racing against time to be fit for the first Test having today been ruled out of the ODI series against the Proteas due to a shoulder injury.

Clarke's hamstring troubles are linked to a chronic back injury that the skipper has been forced the manage for a lot of his career.

On Thursday, Clarke was optimistic about his hamstrings ahead of a big summer of cricket that includes the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

"Touch wood, it's going really well at the moment," the 33-year-old said.

"It's been nice to - or it will be nice to - get some back-to-back cricket.

"Obviously I was a little bit short and still am a little bit short of game time, but I think the more you play that helps."

Cricket Australia has confirmed that Clarke won't be replaced in the squad for the second Carlton Mid ODI against the Proteas on Sunday.
