Di Venuto not losing faith in Twenty20 side

The stand-in Australia coach remains confident his side can find their best form

Australia are adamant their World Twenty20 campaign is on track, despite their 2-0 deficit to India in the current series on home soil.

After ringing six changes for their comprehensive second loss to India at the MCG on Friday night, stand-in coach Michael Di Venuto will blood Usman Khawaja and Cameron Bancroft for Sunday's clash in Sydney.

The Australians have been thoroughly outplayed by the Indians this series, going down by 37 runs in Adelaide and 27 runs in Melbourne.

With skipper Aaron Finch battling a calf injury and wicketkeeper Matthew Wade flying to New Zealand early in preparation for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy one-day series, the in-form Khawaja and Bancroft will make their international T20 debuts at the SCG.

Finch is awaiting scan results and the Australian camp is bullish he will be able to return before the World Twenty20.

Shane Watson will step up to captain Australia in Sunday's third T20.

Di Venuto is refusing to ring the alarm bells despite a pair of comprehensive losses on home soil to India, who will host the World Twenty20 starting on March 8.

He said the selectors were using the series to look at certain players - and would use the upcoming one-dayers against the Kiwis to do the same - and there was cause for optimism as the side chased the only World Cup to escape their grasp.

"We've had quite a few debutants so far throughout the series," Di Venuto said.

"We've got some players resting or heading to New Zealand to prepare for that. The make-up of our side might be completely different - we'll just have to see what the selectors come up with."

Finch's injury leaves the door ajar for Khawaja to make his case to be a three-form Australian representative.

"When I didn't get picked in the one-day team I didn't get too worried - there's a lot of cricket coming up. I was really happy with how I was hitting the ball," Khawaja said.

Meanwhile, Di Venuto will also stand in for Darren Lehmann during Australia's one-day series in New Zealand starting next week.

Lehmann, sidelined since being diagnosed with Deep Vein Thrombosis a week ago, is a chance to return for the Test portion of the series.
