Sore Amir expected to be fit for Boxing Day

Pakistan paceman set to take to the field against Australia at the MCG

Pakistan expect a bruised and stiff Mohammad Amir to be available for the Boxing Day Test.

Amir was taken from the field on a motorised stretcher during last week's first Commonwealth Bank Test after digging his knee into the Gabba turf.

The left-arm quick appeared in agony but made a surprise return a short time later and continued to bowl.

Amir had his knee strapped before a light bowling session in the nets at the MCG on Thursday.

He also sported a large bruise on his thigh, courtesy of a 152.3km/h full toss from Mitchell Starc on day four at the Gabba.

Quick Single: Smith 'exposed' but better for it

"There's quite a bit of bruising on his thigh," Pakistan batting coach Grant Flower said.

"He's feeling a bit stiff but he's alright.

"I think the guys are fit enough to go through (five days). I think our attack will probably be the same.

"We don't have that allrounder (option). It's one of those things. The guys are just going to have get through it."

Tensions between Amir and Starc had been simmering throughout the innings before the delivery, which led to a heated exchange between the pair.

Quick Single: Renshaw ready to open MCG account

"There was just a bit of banter going on. Just the usual," Flower said.

"I don't think there was anything over the top. There were a couple of strong words exchanged but that's part of the game."

Flower expects Pakistan to field an unchanged XI on Boxing Day, predicting the tourists will stick with four frontline bowlers, including the left-arm pace trio of Amir, Wahab Riaz and Rahat Ali.

Amir hobbles off after horror knee injury

“I think the guys are fit enough to go through. I think our attack would probably be the same.

“It’s just one of those things that we’ve had for a while, we don’t have that allrounder batsman, batsman-bowler.

“But it’s one of those things so the guys will just have to get through it.”

He also says Pakistan are ready for the atmosphere and occasion of Boxing Day at the MCG.

“I am sure there will be nerves out there, like anyone, especially with a big crowd.

“But the confidence from that last game and the fightback that was shown by all of them, obviously it is a cliché (but) that momentum will definitely help carrying on into this Test.”
