Irfan flying home after mother's death

Towering quick heads back to Pakistan to be with family, replaced by Junaid Khan ahead of ODI opener

Pakistan paceman Mohammad Irfan has flown home to be with family after the death of his mother.

Irfan, who joined the squad ahead of the upcoming ODI series which begins on Friday in Brisbane, was one of five quicks in the group but looks likely to miss at least the initial stages of the series.

Pakistan have named Junaid Khan as a replacement for the towering fast bowler, who hasn't played for the national side since last September in England.

Irfan returned to Pakistan's domestic first-class competition and helped his side Water and Power Development Authority to the title, taking 3-34 in the first innings of the drawn final.

The Pakistanis also added Mohammad Hafeez to their squad, with the batsman to join the group in Brisbane from Wednesday.

Pakistan were beaten 3-0 in the Test series and now face the Australians in a five-match ODI series.

Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Rahat Ali and Hasan Ali are the remaining four fast bowlers available in the squad.

Junaid has played 52 ODIs and 22 Tests.
