Indian scores 300 in Twenty20 match

Mohit Ahlawat hammers 39 sixes in posting 300 from just 72 balls in local T20 match in Delhi

An Indian domestic cricketer has posted an astonishing triple century in a Twenty20 match in Delhi, believed to be a world record at all levels of cricket.

Mohit Ahlawat, who has played three first-class matches for Delhi, scored an unbeaten 300 from just 72 balls in the local Delhi competition, the Friends Premier League.

The 21-year-old hit 39 sixes and 14 fours in his innings, helping his side Maavi to a total of 2-416 from their 20 overs.

The right-hander was on 250 after 18 overs but blasted 50 runs from the final two overs, including 34 from the last over, and finished the game with five consecutive sixes.

"The attack was good but after seeing off the new ball, I decided to just bat aggressively and was really timing the ball well," Ahlawat told ABP Live.

"I saw the scoreboard, and I was nearing my 200 with five overs to go, so I decided to go for the kill.

"I reached 250 with just two overs to go, I told my partner, let me try if I can make 300, and I got 30 off the last over,"

ABP Live also reported that the venue, Lalita Park, is "a decent-sized ground in East Delhi, famous for hosting of T20 tournaments throughout the year."

Ahlawat broke into Delhi’s Ranji Trophy team in October 2015 but could only manage scores of 1, 4, 0, 0 and 0 before he was unsurprisingly dropped.

Ahlawat is hoping his incredible innings will pay off ahead of the Indian Premier League auction in a fortnight.

"Yes, I have put my name in IPL auction but I am not sure if this knock will help make people notice me," he said. "I am eager to prove my worth."

While the record T20 score for amateur cricket around the world is unclear, the 277 from 72 balls scored by Sri Lankan Dhanuka Pathirana in a local T20 match in Lancashire in 2007 has previously been acknowledged

No batsman has ever scored even a double century in a professional T20 match; the highest individual score is Chris Gayle's 175 in the Indian Premier League while the highest team total is 263.
