Henriques suffers injury in BBL

Star Sydney Sixers allrounder Moises Henriques's BBL campaign in doubt after recurrence of calf injury

The immediate playing future of Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques is unclear after he was stretchered off the SCG on Sunday night with a recurrence of a left calf injury.

Henriques, who was flying on 41 not out midway through the Sixers' innings against the Melbourne Stars, pulled up short when he took off for a run, stumbling mid-pitch and grabbing high on his left calf.

The allrounder appeared to be in significant pain and was eventually carried off the ground in a medicab. He was later seen returning to the player viewing area on crutches.

It's a cruel blow for Henriques, who missed several weeks of cricket earlier this month with the same injury.

The Sixers confirmed he would have scans on Monday.

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting feared the worst for Henriques.

"That to me looks bad. That could be him out for the series," Ponting said on Channel 10's commentary.

Henriques suffered right calf injury in similar fashion during the Matador Cup last year.

While the full extent of the injury is yet to be revealed, it appears to have put paid to Henriques' international ambitions in the short term.

Australia play limited overs matches against India in January before a month-long tour of New Zealand in February and then the World T20 in India in March and April.

The 28-year-old played the last of his six one-day internationals in January this year.

He has also played three Tests and four T20s for Australia.

Henriques fired with both bat and ball for the Sixers on Wednesday night, taking 1-27 and hitting a crucial 62 with the bat.

And he continued that good form tonight, hitting four fours before the injury struck.

Henriques has had a horror run of bad luck on the injury front this year; he was involved in a collision with Surrey teammate Rory Burns, suffering a badly broken jaw.
