Henriques ready to grasp IPL opportunities

Allrounder hopes to make an impact under the leadership of David Warner in second season at Sunrisers Hyderabad

Moises Henriques is ready to grab every opportunity that comes his way this Indian Premier League season.

The 28-year-old allrounder is gearing up for his second season with Sunrisers Hyderabad after playing four matches for the IPL franchise in 2014 and said he hoped to have a greater impact on the Sunrisers’ fortunes this time around.

"You should be ready to grab with both hands the chances that come your way," Henriques told The Hindu.

"It is not going to be easy but the fact that you are up against some fantastic teams and individuals in the IPL should be a huge motivating factor.

"I got chances in three or four games last season. I’m hoping to get more chances this time around."

Led by David Warner, the Hyderabad line-up also features the likes of Kane Williamson, Ravi Bopara, Eoin Morgan, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Trent Boult and Dale Steyn.

The strength in the top order provided by Warner and Shikhar Dhawan combined with a solid bowling department would make the Sunrisers a balanced outfit, Henriques said.

"I must say the Indian pacers Bhuvi, Ishant, Praveen are really good, and we have two world-class internationals Steyn and Boult."

The Sunrisers' first task is on Saturday against the Chennai Super Kings, who are already on the winners’ list for IPL 2015 after defeating Delhi Daredevils by one run.

Match report: Coulter-Nile stars but Delhi fall just short

Henriques led the Sydney Sixers to the KFC T20 Big Bash League final in January where he top-scored with a 57-ball 77 against eventual champion Perth Scorchers, but the allrounder said a change in gears was required to succeed in the IPL.

"The conditions are different and difficult, so are the players and the whole ambiance too,” he said.

"You have to change gears as quickly as possible. I am ready to challenge myself in a big way.

"Personally, I just to want to keep playing as many games as possible and keep improving."
