NSW facing double injury blow

New South Wales could be without skipper Moises Henriques and pace bowler Trent Copeland after the pair were injured during the side's unlikely Sheffield Shield draw with Tasmania in Hobart.

After dominating play through until lunch on the final day with a lead of 322, the Blues couldn't bust up the Tassie partnership of James Faulkner (100no) and Beau Webster (80no) who stood strong on the Bellerive pitch and batted out the overs.

In the final session Copeland, who boasted figures across two innings of 6-54 and 2-65, copped a ball on the end of his finger while fielding at slip.

He raced from the ground and was taken straight to hospital, with assistant coach Geoff Lawson describing the digit as "a mess".

"It's at least dislocated, if not worse (and) it's the top of his bowling finger as well," Lawson said.

"His finger's going sideways and the bone is sticking out."

Pending medical advice, Copeland might remain in Hobart while the rest of the side jets back to Sydney on Wednesday and looks in doubt for the day-night Shield fixture against South Australia, which starts on Monday in Adelaide.

"I'd say Copes would be out - it is his bowling index finger, it's the most important part of his body, basically," Lawson conceded.

Having posted a first-innings century, and celebrated by 'dabbing' towards the dressing room,

Skipper Henriques's side strain flared up in the in the final few overs, sparking his dramatic exit from the field.

Midway through a run-up, the captain turned and hurled the ball into the turf, then grabbed his hat and jumper from the umpire before storming off the ground, leaving his teammates none-the-wiser.

His injury came after Tassie refused his request to call it quits on the match when it became obvious there would be no result.

Lawson said the side is unlikely to know of Henriques' fitness outlook before Thursday but said his absence would be a blow.

"He's pretty important to us and who knows, maybe Australia down the track shortly, too."
