Murali Vijay fined for dissent
India opener Murali Vijay has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
Vijay showed dissent towards umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Bruce Oxenford when he was given out during the second innings of the fourth Test between India and South Africa in Delhi.
Vijay was given out caught behind off the final ball of the fifth over from South African paceman Morne Morkel and left the field protesting and pointing to his arm guard as he walked off.
It was an exciting third day of Test cricket on Saturday, with Virat Kohli receiving a bit of luck during his innings.
Kohli was given out caught behind by Oxenford off the bowling of Imran Tahir, but was given a reprieve when the umpires checked to see if the South African spinner had overstepped.
The charge against Vijay found he had breached Article 2.1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”.
All Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, while the maximum penalty is a fine of 50 per cent of a player's match fee.
