Coulter-Nile dislocates shoulder

Test squad and Scorchers paceman leaves BBL match after awkward landing while fielding

Nathan Coulter-Nile's horror injury run in 2015 has continued in tonight's KFC Big Bash League match with the fast bowler dislocating his shoulder in the field for Perth Scorchers against Adelaide Strikers in Perth.

Coulter-Nile was fielding at backward point to wrist-spinner Brad Hogg when Strikers import Mahela Jayawardena worked the veteran in the speedster's vicinity.

Swooping in, Coulter-Nile missed the ball and as he turned, slipped over and fell awkwardly on his right shoulder, writhing in pain as his teammates came to his aid.

Scorchers coach Justin Langer told Network TEN that Coulter-Nile's shoulder was popped back in once he returned to the dressing room, and will have scans tomorrow.

A cameo of 18 off 8 balls in the Scorchers innings lifted the home side to 6-151 from 20 overs before bowling three overs in the run chase and taking the wicket of Strikers opening batsman Craig Simmons.

The shoulder dislocation is one of a long list of injuries for the 28-year-old, who suffered a calf strain on Australia's limited-overs tour of England in September and a shoulder injury in the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup a month later, ruling him out of the early rounds of the Sheffield Shield.

The right-armer also damaged his hamstring playing for Australia in one-day cricket in November 2014, forcing him out of contention for the 2015 Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Coulter-Nile's place in Australia's 13-man squad for the Boxing Day Test is now in jeopardy, with Victorian seamer Scott Boland likely to be called into the playing group if the national selectors decide to replace the Western Australian if necessary.

Boland was on standby for the first Commonwealth Bank Test against the West Indies in Hobart, and could join fellow Victorian quicks Peter Siddle and James Pattinson for the MCG clash.

Two balls after Coulter-Nile left the field, substitute fielder Ashton Agar took one of the catches of the summer, reeling in Strikers captain Brad Hodge while pedalling backwards.
