Upheaval at summit of ODI player rankings

The 50-over game has new leaders in the batting, bowling and allrounder departments according to the latest ICC rankings update

The International Cricket Council's one-day international player rankings have undergone a Game of Thrones-style makeover, with new kings of batting, bowling and allrounder categories all crowned on Friday.

South Africa's AB de Villiers is the new No.1 ranked ODI batsman, seamer Hasan Ali the No.1 bowler and his Pakistan teammate Mohammad Hafeez the new No.1 allrounder.

After his career-best 176 off only 104 balls in his return to top-flight cricket, de Villiers has returned to the top of the batting charts for the 14th time in his career.

The prolific Protea has jumped from third spot and displaces India skipper Virat Kohli as the world's leading 50-over batsman, while Australia vice-captain David Warner has slipped from No.2 to No.3.

Hasan, after taking 5-34 in the third ODI against Sri Lanka, has surged to the top of the bowling rankings, rising six spots to knock South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir off his perch as the planet's leading ODI bowler.

Australia pace pair Josh Hazlewood (second to third) and Mitchell Starc (fourth to fifth) have accordingly dropped one spot each, with Hasan's massive jump the only movement among the top-10 bowlers.

Just hours after the ICC announced he's been reported for a suspect bowling action, Hafeez has become the new No.1 ranked allrounder.

Hafeez, who is set to undergo testing after his third report for an illegal bowling action, has toppled Bangladesh star Shakib al Hasan as the top ODI allrounder.

Proteas gloveman Quinton de Kock jumped three spots into equal fifth (alongside England's Joe Root) on the batting charts while Pakistan prodigy Babar Azam has climbed two spots into fourth.

Warner remains the only Australian among the top 10 ODI batsman, with captain Steve Smith remaining in 13th position.

The latest rankings take into account the first two matches of the South Africa-Bangladesh series and the first three matches of the ongoing Pakistan-Sri Lanka series in the United Arab Emirates.

Australia remain third in the ODI team rankings, with South Africa narrowly holding top spot ahead of second-placed India.

The Proteas hold on the top spot could slip from their grasp however even if they complete 3-0 series sweep of Bangladesh in the third ODI on Sunday.

India will overtake South Africa at the top of the charts if they win their first ODI against New Zealand, which will also be played on Sunday.

But, assuming South Africa do win the final match of their series against Bangladesh, India will need to win all three of their 50-over clashes against the Kiwis to hold on to the No.1 ranking.
