Born in Portugal, Moises Henriques burst onto the scene as captain of the Australian under-19 team at the 2006 Under-19 World Cup, finishing with 150 runs and 16 wickets.
The allrounder’s desire to then break in to the NSW side was hampered by several injuries and some mixed performances, before he established himself enough to earn an international debut 2009. Big-money contracts in the Indian Premier League soon followed, but it wasn’t until 2013 that Henriques earned his first Baggy Green cap.
He started brightly on Test debut against India in Chennai, scoring 68 and 81 not out, but took just two wickets for the series and was left out for Australia’s 2013 Ashes Tour.
While is ability with both bat and ball is undisputed, Henriques has often found himself in and out of the NSW Sheffield Shield side and it wasn’t until 2012 that he scored his maiden first-class century.
