"The English Tendulkar"
Australian fans will remember him as the batsman that ground their team into the dust in 2010-11, but they shouldn't feel singled out by Cook who has made a habit of setting new benchmarks throughout his career. Returning as captain this time round he already scored more tons (seven) in his first 16 matches in charge than all but five England skippers. Regularly compared to and described as similar to his predecessor Andrew Strauss, Cook is a quieter more thoughtful man but with the same steely backbone that Ashes cricket demands. Another favourable comparison could be with Mathew Hayden, not simply as tall left handed openers, but as men with a love of the outdoor life. For Hayden it is the outback, for Cook it is his wife's family farm where he can be found lambing and toiling in between series'.
