Michael Clarke helps launch MILO T20 Blast

Australian cricketers Michael Clarke, Phil Hughes and Meg Lanning joined over 100 school kids today at Rushcutters Bay Park in Sydney to launch the newest junior sports program for kids, MILO T20 Blast.

MILO Ambassador Michael Clarke, along with Australian batsman Phil Hughes and Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars' young gun Meg Lanning, gave kids the chance of a lifetime as they coached them through simultaneous games of T20.

The launch also coincides with the signing of another four-year partnership between Nestlé Australia’s MILO brand and Cricket Australia, bringing the bond between the two organisations to nearly a quarter of a century.

Cricket Australia, together with the MILO team, is committed to supporting and encouraging the active, healthy lifestyle of Australian kids.  The long term partnership which includes two junior development programs, MILO in2CRICKET and MILO T20 Blast has introduced millions of Aussie kids to the game of cricket.  MILO T20 Blast bridges the gap between MILO in2CRICKET participants and junior club cricket, introducing primary aged girls and boys to real games of T20 in a fun and action packed environment.

Australian captain and MILO cricket graduate Michael Clarke said it was great to see so many kids enjoying the games of T20.

“MILO T20 Blast is all about getting the kids involved and having some fun so it’s fantastic to have over 100 kids participating in today’s event and practicing their bowling, batting and fielding skills,” said Clarke.

“It’s really pleasing to see MILO’s support of cricket continue through programs like MILO T20 Blast which help to raise the next generation of cricket fans and provide kids with the opportunity to give this exciting game a go.”

Business Executive Manager for Nestlé Australia – Beverages, Evan Gongolidis, said the announcement will ensure MILO’s continued involvement in both cricket and the local community, and most importantly, ensuring Aussie kids are active, healthy and outside.

“MILO has been a sponsor of grassroots cricket in Australia for 20 years and the renewal of our agreement extends our partnership with Cricket Australia till 2017,” he said.

“We are thrilled to continue our journey with Cricket Australia so that the next generation of Michael Clarkes, Meg Lannings and Phil Hughes can continue to develop their cricket skills.”

Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager Operations, Mike McKenna, said Australian Cricket’s strategy to create ongoing participation will be strengthened by the full national rollout of the MILO T20 Blast program in 2013.

“MILO T20 Blast provides kids the opportunity to play real games of T20 just like their KFC T20 Big Bash heroes. We are delighted that Nestle have committed another four years to enable more kids to experience Australia’s favourite sport in a fun and safe environment,” McKenna said.
