Nine to show 2015 and 2019 UK Ashes

Australian cricket fans will be able to watch the 2015 and 2019 Ashes series on the Nine Network, after a deal was struck between Nine Entertainment Co. and the England and Wales Cricket Board.

The broadcast deal ensures Australia's next two Ashes tours to England will be available on free to air television.

Nine accounces FULL Ashes coverage

Nine's broadcast of the 2013 UK Ashes on its digital channel Gem was a resounding success, smashing ratings records for digital channels in Australia.

In total, almost 10 million viewers tuned in to Gem's coverage of the Ashes series with the first session average reaching almost 752,000 across the entire series.

CEO of Nine Engertainment Co., David Gyngell, says the expansion of multi-channel options has been a game changer in sports broadcasting.

"The reach of the multi-channels has redefined the art of the possible for the free to air networks in Australia.

"We had great success with the Ashes from the UK this year and look forward to building on that with this new deal, it's about how we creatively use these expanded opportunities at Nine."

The deal gives Nine exclusive rights in Australia to broadcast all one-day and T20 internationals in the 2015 and 2019 series as well as Test matches.

"Nine's on-going relationship with cricket is a source of great pride to me personally and to all Nine employees," said Gyngell.

The deal bolsters Nine's international cricket line up, after the network sewed up a five-year deal with Cricket Australia to show all Australia's home Tests, one-day and T20 internationals, starting with the first test of the 2013-14 Commonwealth Bank Ashes series in Brisbane next week.

"This broadcasting agreement confirms that the next broadcast contractual cycle will deliver an overall increase in revenues compared with the previous four-year period," said ECB Chief Executive, David Collier.

"Nine is one of the foremost cricket broadcasters in the world with a long and distinguished history of covering the game and this deal demonstrates the appeal of Ashes cricket."
