West Indies win after team hat-trick

Pakistan Women lose third T20 against West Indies in a Super Over after incredible final over

The West Indies Women's team have pulled off an unbelievable victory over Pakistan Women, twice getting out of jail to win the final T20 in Grenada and claim the series 3-0.

Chasing just 78 to win from 17 overs in a rain-reduced match, Pakistan appeared on track for victory when they reduced their target to just two runs required from four balls with six wickets in hand.

But then chaos erupted.

The third ball of the 17th over, bowled by player of the series Deandra Dottin, was a dot ball, before she took a return catch from the next delivery to dismiss Nida Dar for 11 and leave Pakistan needing two runs from the final two balls with five wickets left.

Sana Mir, who had scored 22 to go with her bowling figures of 4-14, was then run out on the penultimate delivery coming back for a second run that would have won the game.

With scores tied and one ball remaining, Sania Khan was then incredibly run out to complete a team hat-trick for the Windies and send the match into a Super Over decider.

HOW THE FINAL OVER TRANSPIRED

  • 16.1: 1 run
  • 16.2: 4 runs
  • 16.3: no run
  • 16.4: WICKET
  • 16.5: 1 run, WICKET
  • 16.6: WICKET

More drama followed as Pakistan made just three runs from their six balls in the Super Over, a total that looked like it could have been enough when the Windies were 1-2 from five balls.

But Kyshona Knight swung the last ball of the match hard and mightily to the deep mid-wicket fence to complete the whitewash and record one of the unlikeliest of wins.

Earlier, the West Indies batted first and were bowled out for a paltry 88, with wicketkeeper-batter Kycia Night's 49 the only score to reach double figures.

Rain halted play early in Pakistan's chase, reducing the target to 78 from 17 overs.

Meanwhile in Australia, teenage leg-spinner Devlin Malone pulled off the rare feat of taking all 10 wickets in an innings.

Devlin, 17, was playing second grade for Sydney grade club Sutherland when he claimed 10-115 from 29 overs to go with his six wickets in the first innings to finish with match figures of 16-138 and help secure an upset six-wicket win.

The achievement has only been done twice in Test cricket. England off-spinner Jim Laker claimed 19 wickets against Australia in Manchester in 1956, taking 10-53 in the second innings.

India's Anil Kumble repeated the effort 43 years later, snaring 10-74 against Pakistan in Delhi.

Arthur Mailey holds the best bowling figures for an Australian in Test cricket, with his 9-121 against England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground still standing after 96 years.
