Forrest to stand in for injured stand-in

Chris Lynn's serious shoulder injury paves the way for Peter Forrest to lead Queensland Bulls in Matador Cup

Peter Forrest will step up to lead Queensland in next month’s Matador BBQs Matador One-Day Cup after Chris Lynn was ruled out with a dislocated shoulder.

It marks yet another change of leadership for the myFootDr Queensland Bulls since James Hopes stepped down from the role at the end of last season.

Usman Khawaja (away on Test duty), Lynn (injured) and now Forrest have all been appointed to the role in recent months.

Wicketkeeper-batsman James Peirson has been pulled out of the inaugural Cricket Australia XI squad to fill the hole in the Bulls line-up left by Lynn, a move permitted due to the injury occurring prior to the tournament starting.

The 25-year-old looked set for a big summer after being named stand-in skipper for the Sydney-based tournament starting October 5, which followed an Indian tour with the Australia ‘A’ squad in August.

Lynn also made news more recently with a stunning one-day double-century in Queensland grade cricket in a knock that was highlighted by 19 sixes.

However, Lynn will now miss the Matador Cup, as well as the opening rounds of the Sheffield Shield competition.

While the full extent of the injury is unknown at this stage, Lynn is expected to be out of action for around eight weeks.

“Chris fell awkwardly during a fielding drill yesterday and has unfortunately dislocated his left shoulder,” Queensland physiotherapist Martin Love said.

“We are currently unsure of the full severity of the injury, however we expect to know more when we receive the results from his latest scan.

"We can confirm he will miss the Matador Cup and the start of the Sheffield Shield season, but it is hard to put an exact timeline on his recovery until we have all information on the injury available."

Lynn took to Instagram last night to post a photo of his injured left shoulder with the message ‘Not ideal a week out from the season. All positive vibes here tho’.

It is the same shoulder that required surgery midway through the ‘A’ tour in July 2014, but in good news for the rising star it appears he won’t need to go under the knife on this occasion and is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the KFC Big Bash League season.

Forrest leads a side with depleted batting stocks in the absence of Lynn, Khawaja and Joe Burns.

Cricket Australia has yet to name a replacement for Peirson in the CA XI squad.
