Bulls recall Forrest for injured Renshaw

Queensland have drafted former Australia batsman Peter Forrest into their Matador Cup squad with Matt Renshaw needing scans on his injured knee

Former ODI batsman Peter Forrest has been called into the my FootDr Queensland Bulls squad for the Perth leg of their Matador Cup campaign.

Forrest replaces injured opener Matthew Renshaw, who suffered a knee injury during yesterday’s one-run victory over Tasmania at Allan Border Field.

Renshaw, 20, will have scans this afternoon on his right knee.

Renshaw falls just shy of ton in Brisbane

Forrest, who last played for Australia in July 2012, travelled to Perth this morning as part of the Bulls squad to prepare for Thursday’s day-night clash with the Warriors at the WACA.

The 30-year-old right-hander has been in impressive form for University of Queensland in the opening rounds of the my FootDr Premier Cricket competition, with scores of 64, 58no and 102no.

Young opener Renshaw began the Matador Cup campaign strongly, top-scoring for the Bulls with 88 and making 38 before retiring hurt against Tasmania on Monday.

After a breakout Shield season last summer, the left-hander earned Australia A selection and made 25 and 94 in their first-class clash with South Africa A in July.

Forrest’s inclusion was approved overnight under the Cricket Australia Injured Player policy for the tournament.

Under the tournament playing conditions, Renshaw can return to the squad when fit, but must be reinstated for their direct replacement.

The Bulls are the early competition leaders after winning both of their opening matches in Brisbane, against the CA XI on Saturday and the Tigers yesterday.

Thursday’s match will be broadcast live on GEM on the Nine network. The game starts at 11.30am Perth time.

Meanwhile Tasmania and the CA XI will meet tomorrow from 9.30am at Allan Border Field to complete the Brisbane matches in the tournament. Admission is free for this game.
